University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore in collaboration with City Traffic Police Lahore organized a special seminar on “Traffic Awareness”. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Capt. (R) Malik Liaqat Ali, Vice Chancellor UET Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, senior officers from traffic department, faculty members and a large number of students attended the seminar. A special presentation on traffic rules and regulations was given by representatives of traffic department.
Talking to participants CTO Capt. (R) Malik Liaqat Ali said, “During recent years traffic accidents claimed more life than terrorism. Educational institutions and Media should focus traffic awareness to address rapidly increasing traffic accidents.”
He discussed about traffic rules emphasising on use of seat belts and cautioned the audience on the repercussions of using a mobile phone while driving. He said, “Since driving rules are rarely adhered to in our country, it is need of the hour to curb the violation of lanes and signals in order to avoid fatal accidents.”
Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid said, “University is very keen to work with traffic department to address traffic issues in Pakistan. Creating awareness is one of the most important things that we should do at our earliest.” Special van, to issue traffic license on the spot, was also deputed for the students and faculty members of university. At the end of seminar Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid presented souvenir to CTO Capt. (R) Malik Liaqat Ali.
