UET Lahore Hosts Awareness Seminar on Narcotics Abuse and Prevention

The Character-Building Society (CBS), University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, organized a seminar titled “Awareness About Narcotics Abuse and Prevention” on Tuesday, 19th May 2026, at the Seminar Hall of the Chemical Engineering Department. The purpose of the seminar was to create awareness among students, faculty members, and staff regarding the harmful effects of narcotics and the importance of preventive measures against drug abuse.

The keynote speaker of the seminar was Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal, Commander / Director General Punjab Counter Narcotics Force, who delivered a comprehensive and thought-provoking lecture on the growing issue of narcotics addiction among youth. During his address, he discussed the social, psychological, and health-related consequences of drug abuse and emphasized the collective responsibility of educational institutions, families, and society in eliminating this menace. He also highlighted the role of awareness campaigns and law enforcement agencies in combating narcotics and promoting a drug-free environment.

The seminar was attended by several distinguished guests and officials, including Prof. Dr. Nasir Hayat, Pro-Vice-Chancellor UET Lahore; Mian Muhammad Asif, Registrar UET Lahore; Dr. Qasim Shaukat, Advisor CBS Society; Dr. Amna Niazi, Director Students Affairs; and Prof. Dr. Farhan Saeed, Director FACS. Senior officials from the Counter Narcotics Force also participated in the event, including Director Intelligence CNIU Col. Asif, Colonel Furqan, Director Lahore Colonel Faisal, Colonel Sarfraz, and the Deputy DG Punjab CNF, who shared the stage alongside the chief guests and faculty members. Chairpersons of various departments, faculty members, administrative staff, and a large number of students also attended the seminar.

The participants showed great interest throughout the session and actively engaged with the speaker during the questions-and-answers segment. At the conclusion of the seminar, commemorative shields were exchanged between the distinguished guests. Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal presented a shield to Prof. Dr. Nasir Hayat, Pro-Vice-Chancellor UET Lahore, while Prof. Dr. Nasir Hayat also presented a shield to Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal in recognition of his valuable contribution and informative address. Furthermore, caps bearing the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) logo were distributed among students who actively participated in the Q&A session.

The seminar concluded successfully with a strong message encouraging students to adopt a healthy, responsible, and drug-free lifestyle while contributing positively toward society
