About PRL

Pavement  Research  Laboratory (PRL) was established within the Department of Transportation  Engineering and Management , University of Engineering and  Technology, Lahore in 2007.  Funding for the establishment of PRL was provided by Higher Education Commission and UET, Lahore.

Looking at the current road conditions in Pakistan, high rate of pavement deterioration, the tremendous increase in traffic demand, and the limited resources present a major problem facing the highway authorities. These problems can be resolved or minimized by capacity building, use of new technology, improvement in mix and pavement design, construction specifications, maintenance and rehabilitation practices.

The initial aim of PRL was to establish and implement the SUPERPAVETM Technology to meet the specific needs of the region.  SUPERPAVETM product was developed from October 1987 through March 1993 under the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) in the United States to develop new ways to specify, test, and design asphalt materials. Keeping in view the objectives and recommendations of the SUPERPAVETM technology, Binder and Mix Design laboratory was established within the Department of Transportation Engineering, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore.

The PRL was established with an objective to develop a fully coordinated and integrated pavement research program and unit consisting of UET and industry personnel to focus on the enhancement of technological and economic aspects related to pavement design, performance and construction.  In addition, Integrate the results of the most recent research work being conducted in the U.S. and around the world such as the implementation of 2002 Design Guide for the Design of New and Rehabilitated Pavement Structures.
