My first field assignment was to perform as a 'Logistics Associate' for the Canadian International Development Agency's (CIDA) funded project of 'Local Tools for Governance and Community Monitoring in Pakistan' where my services were hired by Community Information Epidemiological Technologies, Pakistan for Lahore region. After the completion of the project, I started working with Daewoo City Bus Service in Lahore as a 'Planning and Operations Officer' in the same year (2002). In November 2004, I was hired by Cowater International Inc. to offer my consultancy services as 'District Planner' to another CIDA's funded project of 'Devolution Support in Pakistan'. My main task was to prepare a District Development Plan for Kasur District. After successful completion of this consultancy project, I started my first public sector job with the Punjab Local Government and Rural Development Department in December 2005 as a 'Tehsil Officer Planning and Coordination'. My duty station was Tehsil Municipal Administration, Chunian.
During all that professional engagements, I continued pursuing the requirements of completing my Master's degree in City and Regional Planning side by side, and finally, in 2006, I was able to complete it. In the same year, after getting selected by the Federal Public Service Commission, I joined Military Engineer Services (MES), Government of Pakistan as 'Assistant Executive Engineer (Buildings and Roads)'. I served MES for almost a year at Pakistan Air Force Base Rafiqui, Shorkot Cantt. After having five years of progressive and diversified field experience, I joined the Department of City and Regional Planning, UET Lahore as a 'Lecturer' in 2007.
After completing three years of regular service in UET Lahore, I was able to win a Ph.D. scholarship offered jointly by Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In 2011, I left for Germany to start my Ph.D. studies at TU Dortmund University. Meanwhile, I was also promoted to Assistant Professor in the same year. In 2015, I successfully defended my Ph.D. thesis and earned the prestigious 'Magna Cum Laude' grade. My Ph.D. thesis was dominantly in the research domain of 'sustainable urban development'. In October 2015, I rejoined my service as 'Assistant Professor' in CRP Department and since then I am teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in the department.
My current research interests revolve around urban planning, sustainable development, migration and mobility, urban travel behaviour, urban resilience, and housing. While collaborating with international researchers, I am actively researching these areas for publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations in national and international conferences. I have also successfully acquired third-party funding for research projects both in the capacities of Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator.
