Prof. Dr.-Ing. Furqan Ahmed ( Professor )

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Furqan Ahmed is currently working as the Chair of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore.

He did his B.Sc. Engineering (Hons.) from UET, Lahore in 2003, got top position and won 02 Gold medals. After graduating from UET Lahore he joined same university as Lecturer in 2003. Then he did his post-graduation (M.Sc. Engineering) in 2006 from UET, Lahore. In 2008 he won Faculty Development Scholarship and moved to Germany for doing his Ph.D. from the Friedrich Alexander University (FAU) of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He completed his Ph.D. degree in November 2012 and came back to Pakistan to serve UET, Lahore again. On joining back UET, Lahore he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor in December 2012. After serving for about one year, he was promoted to the position of Associate Professor in December 2013, the he became full Professor in March 2019. He was designated as the Chairman, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department, UET, Lahore on January 27, 2021.

His main working areas are Mechanical Behaviour of Engineering Materials (especially thin films and coatings), Physical Metallurgy, Failure Analysis, and Computational Materials Science. He has supervised a number of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students in these areas and many are under-supervision. Currently he is supervising 02 Ph.D. students. He has published 32 research papers in reputed journals. His total impact factor is 88.359, h-index is 11, and i10-index is 12.
