Dr. Jahanzaib Israr ( Lecturer )

Dr. Jahanzaib Israr is currently serving as Senior Lecturer of Geotechnical Engineering at University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore since August 2009. Dr. Jahanzaib obtained B.Sc. Civil Engineering with overall 5^th position in his session of 200 students from 2009 and then obtained M.Sc. Geotechnical Engineering with Honors in 2012 from Department of Civil Engineering, UET Lahore. He obtained FDP and partial IPTA scholarships and completed Ph.D. in 2016 from University of Wollongong (UoW) Australia. He then served as a full-time Research Fellow at the Center GRE of the University of Wollongong Australia (2017-2018) and is currently associated with Center GRE as a Honorary Research Fellow until 2021. He also holds the prestigious position of Helenshan Research Scholar at the Ningxia University, China (2020-2025).  Dr. Jahanzaib’s fields of research interest include granular soils under dynamic conditions, filtration and drainage, and problematic soils especially soft and swelling clays. He has co-authored +30 research articles including 19 ISI indexed journal papers and a number of international conference papers and has also contributed chapters on internal erosion and design of filtration of railway subballast layer to a couple of international books published by ASCE. Dr. Jahanzaib peer reviews scholarly Q indexed journals by ASCE, Elsevier, Springer, ASTM and ICE etc. He served as Editor and Organizing Secretary of two mega international conferences on geotechnical engineering in Pakistan (December 2020). So far, he has secured 5 fully funded and 1 partially funded PhD scholarships for extraordinary Pakistani students in UoW Australia. He delivered the Bright Spark Lecture on “On quantifying the internal stability of loaded granular soils – novel unified approaches” and also won the International Best Paper Award at 9^th Asian Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference 2019 in Lahore, Pakistan.
