An International Seminar on “Managing Indus Basin for Sustainable Development, Food Security, and Poverty Alleviation’’ arranged by Center of Excellence in Water Resources Engineering (CEWRE) University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. Seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shakir, Dean Faculty of Civil Engineering. He congratulated the director for arrangement of this international seminar.
Moreover he said that how best can Pakistan manage water resources and should make more efforts to make it knowledgeable for sustainable development in future. Guest of Honors Prof. Dr. Shabaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Cluster office Jakarta and Engr. Naseer ahmad Gilani Chief of Water Planning Commission, Islamabad participated this seminar and presented to audience. Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman Director CEWRE briefed the audience about the seminar and its benefits for professionals, researchers and students.
Deans and Chairmen of university, faculty members, participants from other universities, and administrative staff along with a large number of students were present. In technical session on Prof. Dr. Shahbaz Director of the (UNESCO) Cluster Office Jakarta was presented the “trans bounder water issues, inland navigation” to audience.
Engr Asif Baig (Indus water commissioner) Engr. Jahanzeb Akram Bodla and Dr. Jhanzeb Masood cheema (Director for Center for Advance studies, UAF) talked about the difficult aspects of the trans-boundary water resources issues and way forward. In addition Dr. SalifDiop (NESCO), Dr. Amjid Masood, Dr. Ashraf Bodla Dr. Arif Anwer( Director, IWMI Pakistan) Engr. Riaz Rasheed (Chief Engineer (I&D) were enlighten the environmental flows related issues, climate change, water security matters, present water resources in Pakistan, telemetry and water quality related problems and solutions were discussed in this technical session.
At the end panel discussion session comprised on experts discussion was also arranged for discussion on the main theme of seminar. Experts proposed recommendation in the result of extensive discussion. Concluding remarks was delivered Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman Director CEWRE).
