recent activities

  1. A Special Lecture on “Road Safety” was delivered by Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Director General, Punjab Emergency Service, Rescue 1122, on June 5th 2012. He emphasized that approximately five lac road crashes could have been avoided if we had good traffic engineering, proper enforcement of traffic law and created traffic sense. Thus Transportation Engineers have to play a great role to bring a positive change. The Rescue 1122 introduced Punjab Emergency Service and discussed its excellent performance. The Rescue 1122 also demonstrated and trained students of DTEM about the First Aid Techniques. Faculty and staff of DTEM, and Director KICS Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood also attended.
  2. An MoU is signed between DTEM and City Traffic Police, Lahore on 23rd May, 2012, at DTEM Seminar Hall. This MoU will help to enhance industry academia Collaboration.
  3. Seminar on “TRAFFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS” jointly organized by Director Students Affairs and DTEM, was held on May 8th 2012, at Seminar Hall of Chemical Engineering Department. Chief Guest was Dr. Usman Anwar, PSP, Chief Traffic Officer, Lahore. The seminar was warmly attended by Students, Staff Members, Officers and Faculty Members. Almost thousand Driving License / Learning License were issued to the students including faculty members. This seminar was aimed to enhance traffic awareness.
  4. Saveez Sheikh (09-TE-26) and Aiman Fatima (08-CHEM-43) participated in Bet Bazi Competition organized by Bazm-e-Tariq Aziz Show, held on 26 April, 2012 at Al Hmara Hall. 8 Universities participated in that competition, where UET won the competition. They received Rs. 40, 000 and a trophy.

  5. M. Ammaar Afzal (09-TE-29) and Khuaja Ehsan-ul-Haq (08-TE-69) participated as a member of UET's team in All Pakistan International University Quiz Competition organized by Ravians Quiz Society held at G.C. University, Lahore, on 10 th May, 2012. 37 Universities participated in that competition. UET got 3 rd position and received Trophy with certificate of appreciation.
  6. Department participated in Road Safety Speech Competition organized by National Highways & Motorway Police (NH & MP) Islamabad, title being “Road Safety is Everybody’s Responsibility”, held at Pakistan National Council of the Arts, Islamabad, on 26 April, 2012. Students Miss Aksa Mashkoor (2009-TE-09) and Kaleem Azmat Chattha (2010-TE-63) participated in the competition, where Kaleem Azmat Chattha won second position with cash prize of Rs. 30,000/-. He is also selected as Ambassador for Road Safety by NH & MP. Total 14 universities with 24 students participated in the competition.
  7. A special lecture on “Lahore Urban Transport Master Plan 2030” was delivered by Engr. Aqeel Younis working as Transport Planner at Almec Corporation, Tokyo, Japan, on March 10, 2012. The topic was extremely enlightening and illustrated the transportation existing facilities, and shown mechanism to plan for 2020 and 2030 transportation demands for the growing Metropolitan Lahore.
  8. Seminar on “City Traffic and Safety Issues” in collaboration with City Traffic Police Lahore and Punjab Emergency Services Rescue 1122 sponsored by 3M Pakistan Private Ltd. Was held on January 5 th 2012, at Seminar Hall of DTEM. The seminar was aimed at increasing the awareness level in the students of Transportation Engineering and increasing cooperation between the industry and academia.
  9. Prof. Dr. Toshiyuki Okamura research advisor of DTEM faculty member Engr. Muhammad Ashraf Javid, for Ph.D., thesis titled, “Development of Transportation Demand Management Strategies Framework as Congestion Mitigation for Developing Countries”, visited DTEM, UET, Lahore on 20-09-2011. The purpose of visit was to check and assure the quality of survey conducted by DTEM students under the supervision of Engr. Ashraf. He addressed the faculty members about the joint research and scholarship opportunities in his university. Prof. Okamura showed keen interest for collaboration and to sign an agreement between UET and YNU.
  10. Special Lecture on “LTC and Problems of Transport in Lahore” by Engr. Muhammad Imran Khan, Deputy Manager, Planning and Operations, Lahore Transport Company (LTC), Lahore. (May. 02, 2011). The topic was extremely enlightening and illustrated the transport problems of Lahore and measures to be taken by LTC for its solutions.
  11. Stall organized in Exhibition of five-day long International Event “Pakistan Urban forum 2011” held from March 1st to 5th, 2011, at Alhmra Art Gallery, Mall road, Lahore. The forum was organized by Urban Unit, Planning and Development Department, Government of The Punjab. The faculty and students of DTEM managed a Stall that emphasized the role of Transportation Engineering in managing urbanization that is the road to national development. The DTEM highlighted urban Transportation problems and suggested research based solutions/ future recommendations. The Stall was highly appreciated by management and visitors.
  12. Department participated in the Digital Innovation, International Conference and Exhibition (DICE 2010) at Institute of Space Technology , Islamabad, held on 21-22 December, 2010, where B.Sc. Final Year Project, titled, “Development of Creep and Recovery Apparatus”, won 2nd prize under Industrial Application Category. Students Muhammad Umar Shafique and Sulaiman Majeed of Session-2006 worked under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Waseem Mirza. The apparatus is used for evaluating the creep and recovery properties of asphalt binder as a function of temperature. Total of 21 universities with 52 projects participated in the competition.
  13. Special intensive course on Spoken English, held from 26 Jul,2010 to 21 Aug, 2010, six(6) days a week and four(4) hours daily for session 2008 and 2009.

  16. Three Days Workshop on “Geometric Design of Highways using Eagle Point” by Engr. Rizwan Aziz, Senior Engineer, Associate Consulting Engineers Pvt. Ltd. Lahore, (3-5 Feb. 2009).
  17. Special Lecture on “International Transportation and Logistics” by Mr. Muhammad Anwar, Chief Executive, Custom Syndicate Pvt. Limited, Lahore. (Apr. 04, 2008).
