First Solar Photovoltaic Electricity Generation System Installed at ETDC

Description:  This is a small PV system consisting of 40 thin film type modules (amorphous Silicon) 40Wp each, making a total rated output of 1.6 KWp. The system is installed  as an independent  Standalone System.  There are 5 modules connected  in an array fitted on to steel racks at an angle of inclination of 30O. In the array modules are connected in parallel producing 60V(Voc) and 4.0 A(Isc). The system comprises of 8 arrays installed on the roof top of Main Block of Mechanical Engineering presently nominated as Energy Technologies Development Centre. In Standalone systems the electricity generated by PV modules is stored in a Battery Bank. The Battery Bank consists of 4 x 100Ah batteries. Two independent invertors of 750 VA can be attached to each pair of batteries inverting  12V DC into 220 V AC. The PV Energy Laboratory consists of two large rooms and an office. All the existing electrical load of this laboratory consisting of 6 AC Fans(100W Each) and 18 Energy Saver Lamps(15W Each) is now being powered by the Solar PV system.
